The museum exhibits among others sacral small monuments from former churches and monasteries, prehistoric and early historical local finds, an exhibition of Schaumburg traditional costumes and their production trade as well as exhibits about state history, military objects and court uniforms of the Schaumburg-Lippischen princely house.

Right now the museum is changing. Updated, appealing designed text boards are to give extensive information about town and province history. Also in preparation is a new concept for the permanent exhibition. The museum Bückeburg is to live up to the demands of a modern museum in research, presentation and conveying.

An especially interesting object will be exhibited in the entrance area in regular intervals. Currently it's the late-Gothic retable made of lime wood. Sponsors are being wanted for financing the desperately needed renovation.

The museum's programme encompasses historic and provincial historical special exhibitions, readings, little concerts events and themed guided tours for all age groups. Children's birthday parties can be booked and museum's educational events like the 'treasure hunt' are also on offer.
